the u.s. has blundrd into the scenario with one overreaction or another. bin laden needs to be the object of our hoss tilts, national security and contempt and deserves to be taken seriously. but most of what he has achieved we do ourselves. bin laden does not deserve that we even inadvertently fuffleful unimagined dreams. here's more from the president friday at this news conference. i think in this day and age there is always going to be the potential for an individual or a small group of individuals, if they are willing to die, to kill other people. some of them are going to be very well organized and some of them are going to be random. that threat is there and it's important, i think, for the american people to understand that and not to live in fear. it's just a reality of today's world that there are going to be threats out there. we have i think greatly improved our homeland security security since 9/11 occurred. you know, i am constantly impressed with the dedication that our teams apply to this problem. they are chasing down every threat, not just from al qaeda

. bill karins tracking this storm very closely for us and how does it look right snow. >> the storm weakened from a category 4 to a 3. looks like we're going through another burst of intensification. you can see it right there. a clearing of an eye and that is usually the storm is tightening itself up and the winds will increase slightly during the day today. warm water out ahead of it and we do not expect much more weakening by the time it gets out towards north carolina. the hurricane hunter aircraft is just on its way in. now the next storm, the next hurricane hunter aircraft will be in there probably another three hours from now. until then we'll have to look and get estimates on the satellite of how strong earl is. the wind field 125 mi-mile-per-r winds. as we go into friday, our computer models, we have been watching these closely. when you see the pink line to the right, that would be a hard-glancing blow. the line all the way to the left in the blue would be huge problems. we'll end up with something in the middle and that's what the hurricane forecast is as of now. cat 3 to

-northeast. eventually we'll see it as a trough that's going to bring us that beautiful weather this weekend. a trough is going to pick this storm up and turn it out to sea. the pressure has risen 955 mill ibars. i want to tell you where this storm is going to go within the next 24 hours. there we are as we head further out in time to around 3 p.m. just offshore here of eastern long island and then as we go into friday night, there's boston, cape cod and the islands. it looks like this storm is just going to brush them which is really great news. there was concern they were going to take a direct hit but we're fairly confident now this is not going to be impacting cape cod and the islands like it could have been yesterday. so there's your path again as of 5 a.m. and the bulk of this storm really staying offshore which is great news, not to say we're not going to see the effects of the storm surge, rain, gusty winds. kind of like a nor'easter. this is what earl should be and thank goodness, just a bit of a sigh of relief this morning. >> all my friends are so excited that they're still getting to go on
